How do we communicate?
My main inspiration has always been communication. How do we communicate? That question has driven me to explore not only music, but also dance, language, literature, and culture. I'm fascinated by how we can use sound, physical movement, and visual scenes to share emotions and stories. How some people use their voice to speak, and how others use their hands to sign. How people from various parts of the world describe and interpret life in so many different ways. I'm fueled by my discoveries in the realm of communication, and I hope to reflect on my experiences with communication in my music, and continue to explore as I compose and perform.
As an instrumental musician, I play the flute, piccolo, and the harp. I started playing flute in elementary school, and since then my love and curiosity of music has led me to explore many different creative and musical endeavors.
I currently play in my high schools Wind Ensemble and my county's orchestra, so I mainly play more classically based music, though I love to mix in some contemporary repertoire when I can. I also play in small harp ensembles, flute choirs, and chamber music based quintets from time to time. I'm happiest when I get to work with fellow musicians/creative people to create something that you cannot create by yourself.
I have also enjoyed taking music technology classes in high school, learning about and exploring topics such as the history of music technology, and composing and sound design within a digital interface, collaborating with my classmates and composing by myself.
